How to guess an artist in seven tries
This mini-game rewards method rather than luck. With every name you offer, seven columns fill in and compare your artist to the hidden one: genre, country, era, format, gender and stream count. So each guess rules out hundreds of possibilities, even when it is wrong.
Start with an artist who is very well known and very typed. A niche name teaches you almost nothing, because it looks like nobody else. A big pop name from the 2010s, on the other hand, plants a marker in the middle of the map, and every column tells you which way to search.
The arrows are worth their weight in gold. They only show up on debut year and on streams, and they tell you to aim higher or lower. Two well chosen guesses are often enough to pin the era to a decade. The rest becomes deduction, not music trivia.
Which artist should you start with?
One everyone knows and who sits in the middle: pop, American or British, 2010s, plenty of streams. That gets you the most information out of your first try.
What do the arrows mean?
They tell you to aim higher or lower. On the debut column, that means a later or an earlier era. On the streams column, an artist who is played more or played less.
Does the score depend on the number of tries?
Yes. Finding it first time scores the maximum, and every extra try brings the mark down. So it is better to think one guess longer than to fire off three at random.
