How to find the next line of a chorus
Three lines of lyrics appear, you write the fourth. It looks like pure memory, and yet deduction does half the work.
Sing the lines in your head rather than reading them. Song lyrics are not a text, they are glued to a melody, and it is the melody that brings back what follows. The rhythm of the syllables helps too: the missing line almost always has the same length as the ones before it, and it often rhymes with one of them.
If nothing comes, try anyway. Every miss reveals more words of the hidden line, and two words are sometimes all it takes for the whole chorus to come back at once. The score drops with every try, but a chorus found on the fourth try still beats a chorus missed.
Do the lyrics have to be spelled correctly?
No. One or two mistakes are tolerated, which matters a lot on English lyrics. Write what you hear in your head, even if you doubt the spelling.
Are the lyrics all in English?
No, the catalogue mixes languages. But English choruses are in the majority, as in most streaming catalogues.
What do you do when you are completely stuck?
Offer any plausible continuation. The words that appear after a miss are often what unlocks the memory, far more than staring at the three lines you were given.
